Finally after roughly three months my family headed down to Ft Lauderdale for business meeting. Now I’m not much of a business person so instead I hung out with my friend Zach. Before this happened though I was intent on heading to the beach to work on a tan because Oviedo is slowly turning me whiter and whiter. Anyways my vacationing headquarters was the Courtyard Marriot that is jam packed with history for myself.

In the early years that I spent in Fort Lauderdale, my family never owned a pool, so hearing about the courtyard marriot hotel we hatched a plan. One night around 7:00 my father and I visited the hotel. Seeing that the pool gate was unlocked we slipped in and enjoyed the pool. This went on for months, also inviting friends on occasions to the “local” pool. One day though we found that the point of entry had been locked, thus ending anymore pool activities.

So I guess its ironic that the hotel that I…used for swimming activities would be the same hotel that I would eventualy stay at for the night. Well even though there was a bill attached to this adventure, it was worth it.

Happy new year! Todays the big day, the day we make new goals for 2009, and the day we see if we accomplished the goals of the yesteryear. “Did I lose that twenty pounds?”, or “Did I learn how to dance?”, or even ” Did I spend some time with my family?” will turn into future goals, or be revised. So with a pop of champagne, (not for me…), some fireworks, and resolutions in hand lets make this year, 2009, the greatest!

Geordans’ Thoughts – The deadline of a goal shouldn’t be treated with misery, “Aw It didn’t work out the way it was supposed too”, It should be treated with optimism, more like, “Ok, now I know how to fix it”. Life wasn’t created to worry over things, it was created to enjoy everything, even the downfalls. Life is the process of change, we continue to change to find a better outcome. So if that goal wasn’t achieved this year, then change the process of obtaining that goal. How many goals did you achieve this year?

A few days ago, (the 24th to be exact), I had an adventure with’ my parents. Waking up at 4:24, I exit my bedroom, get a glass of water, all while bleary-eyed, and go back to bed happy to have attained moisture for the my body’s metabolic procedures. After achieving a comfortable sleeping position, I start to dose away when I hear…”GEORDAN…get up, we gotta go!”, looking at my alarm clock I realize that its 4:30. Trying to remember how I got washed up, dressed, and how I arrived at a hotel was like trying to remember a dream…you only get bits and pieces. So now sitting in the hotels’ restaurant, pen in hand, and a waiver in front of me, saying “Heck I only got one life to live.”, I sign the waiver. Next thing I know I’m on a field with twenty other people I don’t know watching men blow up gigantic balloons. Climbing into the basket of the hot air balloon, (which is starting to leave the ground), I whip out my camera phone, but think twice because the last thing I want to do is drop my phone. We start leaving the ground and gently drift upwards into the sky. Still early in the morn, I get a glimpse of the rising sun, not thinking twice, I whip out my camera phone for the second time, take a shot, and quickly put it back in my pocket. We keep gliding along the currents at a “quick” 38 Mph, and set down an hour later, they served champagne for a successful flight, and everyone got a glass…except me, (bluffs don’t work like they used too…). I would recommend anyone to take a hot air balloon ride for this one reason…

Geordans’ Thoughts – Being in a modern world surrounded by noise, cars, phones, music, TV, computers, etc. it’s hard to take some time away to be in a silent place for a while. Being in the balloon, one realizes how quiet the natural world can be, and one almost reconnects to themselves in quietness. Do you have a silent place?

Santa Claus, we know him, love him, and most of us used to believe in him. We all know there’s no real Santa right? Well…today’s modern Santa isn’t real, but St. Nicholas was. Bishop Nicholas of Smyrna, (Izmar in present-day Turkey) lived during 4th century A.D., and was a rich and generous man, which in legend tossed toys through the windows of houses. How did Santa, North Pole, flying reindeer, Claus be created? Well legends spread and changed, and evolved, Rudolph was actually created for advertising in 1939. Regardless if the legends of Santa, Father Christmas, or Kris Kringle are false, we should remember the joy the thought of Santa brings us.

Geordans’ Thoughts – Just because something isn’t real doesn’t mean we don’t have to stop believing in it..if misery is brought to a person who would give up joy to be right, that person would invite misery forever. A person should joyful whether he is right or not. With this said, don’t believe in the materialist aspects of Santa, the presents, the man himself, instead believe in the spirit of kindness, giving, and joy the thought gives us. Are you a materialist?
